CDW2017 - How much could you get across in 400 seconds?

Posted by Stacey Turner on Apr 24, 2017 11:58:30 AM

How many times have you fallen asleep during someone’s presentation? Probably not that many actually, but I bet you’ve wanted to more times than you’d care to admit. Your internal monologue screaming “just get to the point.”

In response to regular doses of “Death by PowerPoint”, Two Tokyo architects developed a presentation style that encourages speakers to be concise and input as much energy into a short a space of time as possible; to get to the point.

Known as PechaKucha, this format has taken the world by storm, and we invite you to come and experience it for yourself at Clerkenwell Design Week next month.

CDW2017 - Spot the future & furnish it! Ft. Liselotte Lyngsø

Posted by Stacey Turner on Apr 14, 2017 11:00:00 AM

For millennia people have claimed to be able to foresee the future. Most famous of all is probably Nostradamus, whose 16th century predictions have echoed through the ages. To most, the future is an enigma. Not for all though.

Liselotte Lyngsø is a futurist, and she spends her time predicting the future. Or more precisely, future trends in the world of work and beyond. A founding partner of Future Navigator, she is employed by organisations (past clients include Greenpeace, Specsavers & Red Bull) to help them understand emerging technology, ways of thinking and ideologies, in order to harness their power and take advantage of the benefits before it’s too late.

Earlier this year we saw how many organisations are unaware of how to instigate effective workplace benefit & amenity schemes. This isn’t always the case, and many companies successfully create a perk scheme which reflects and reinforces the company culture.

Today we look at some success stories from around the world, showing how a little bit of thought can create an effective amenity strategy which benefits everyone whilst also increasing the attractiveness of working within the company.

How the way you sit can change the way you work

Posted by Richard Ferris on Apr 5, 2017 12:44:32 PM

One of the biggest barriers to productivity in the workplace is a breakdown in communication. Without regular dialogue, teams can lose focus on the bigger picture, strategies can get muddled, and individuals are more likely to be misunderstood. Whilst recent advances in technology have made it easier than ever for people to communicate quickly and across vast distances, it has reduced the amount of face-to-face contact people have, and in the workplace multiple studies have shown this to have an adverse effect on productivity. Productivity isn’t the only benefit of Face-to-Face time. Getting people talking in real life can increase happiness and creativity, and instil a sense of belonging.
